Virginia has a primary…. So why become a delegate?
BECAUSE, delegates to the national convention can change their vote after the first ballot!
This happens when there is no winner after the first ballot at the convention. It becomes a brokered convention.
According to Virginia Law “delegates and alternates shall be bound to vote on the first ballot at the national convention for the candidate receiving the most votes in the primary unless that candidate releases those delegates and alternates from such vote. “ - § 24.2-545. Presidential primary. (Part D) These delegates can also vote to change the rules at the national convention to make it easier for their "guy".
This is done so that a nomination can take place at either party's convention. If no candidate wins after the first ballot the delegates to the national convention must be able to change their votes in order to choose a nominee.
What this means is if Donald Trump wins the Virginia primary in your congressional district the delegates from your congressional district to the national convention must vote for him in the first ballot. After the first ballot they can vote for anyone they want.
If the delegates to the national convention are Trump supporters they will not change their vote in later ballots. If the delegates are Cruz or Rubio supporters, they will change their vote to their “guy.” We can't let folks do this. We need our people at the national convention.
So to make sure that Donald Trump wins the Republican Party Nomination we must elect Trump supporters as delegates to the national convention. These delegates are elected at the Congressional District Conventions and the Virginia State Convention.
Keep checking this website to see who the committed Trump supporters are that we need as delegates to the national convention.
